Lib Dems Message on Development

Kelly-Marie Blundell, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Guildford, spoke to BBC Surrey Radio this morning on development in and around Guildford.

Kelly-Marie Blundell, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Guildford, spoke to BBC Surrey Radio this morning on development in and around Guildford.

“The Liberal Democrats have always been clear on the development in Guildford – we will always promote brownfield sites first, infrastructure must be up to scratch and development must be proportionate to the area it is proposed. Where possible, we will insist on affordable housing levels of 40%

“We would be blind to deny the housing crisis in Guildford, with high house prices and higher rents forcing families out of the market. So we do need development. However, our councillors will always apply the principles to any proposed development on a case by case basis.

“With the Conservatives delaying the Local Plan due to poor leadership, developers are now snapping at sites around Guildford and it may be a struggle to protect the green belt.”

Development around Guildford is going to be a hot topic during the upcoming National and Local Elections. With all Council seats up for election in Guildford Borough, the Lib Dems as the official opposition on the Council have the opportunity to take control and put an end to undemocratic and flawed leadership from the Conservatives.
