Sue Doughty, Chair of Guildford Liberal Democrats, who as MP for Guildford worked with Charles Kennedy in Parliament said today:
“Charles was a unique politician who brought so much into every political area. I will not only remember his courage in defying the Prime Minister Tony Blair in opposing the Iraq war, but also his unique insight into the consequences of that war which are still unfolding. Indeed in the European referendum to come, we will miss his acute and clear insight.
People in Guildford will also have warm memories of Charles whether it was lunching with older people at the Age Concern Riverside Centre or chatting with primary school children about his other great ambition, to be a spaceman.
To me he was a great friend and a wise leader. He will be sorely missed not only on the political scene but also in the Highlands of Scotland.
Our sincere condolences to his son Donald and to Sarah.”
