Alan Hilliar and his wife Carolyn have lived in Ash all their married life. Their children went to our local schools. They're an active part of the community and regular attendees at St Peter's Church in Ash.
Alan has run a successful technology consulting business from their home in the Aldershot Road for many years and has clients across the country. For relaxation, Alan and Carolyn and their rescued border collie (Rosie) can often be found enjoying walks in the local countryside. Alan cycles both on and off road whenever he can.
Asked why he wants to become a local councillor, Alan said "I don't think our existing councillors have done enough for local people or for our local environment.
"People in Ash and Tongham need a councillor who cares about our community and who will listen to local people. If I'm elected, I will set up regular on line council surgeries, so people can tell me what they're concerned about. I'll keep people in touch with what I'm doing using social media like Facebook.
"We need to do more when it comes to issues like tackling flooding, safe road crossings near schools, preserving and creating accessible green spaces for local people, and making sure enough infrastructure is in place to support any development that goes ahead.
"I'll campaign hard to put right what the Conservatives have got wrong, fighting large scale housing developments on our green fields, working to get a local Neighbourhood plan established and above all, putting the interests of local people in Ash and Tongham first in all I do."
